The intensive one day workshop lead by Mr. Aslam Parker, Deputy Director: Professional and Scientific Services, Chief Directorate: Surveys & Mapping (CDSM), was a great success. Delegates feedback showed that they felt they had learnt a great deal and that they now felt more comfortable with the topic of map projections and the parameters one can set. The group discussed the implementation of different projections at different scales and learnt that a study by the Chief Directorate: Surveys & Mapping has shown that Albers Equal Area is appropriate for mapping large areas within South Africa, whilst still maintaining area.
